Online and Social Media Related Crime

Intimidating Email

An email threatens a court case, a leak, or harm unless you pay or click a link.

Warning signs

  1. The mail talks about a crime, a video, or a legal case you do not know about.

  2. It gives you a few hours to pay.

  3. It tells you not to tell your family or the police.

  4. The sender will not give a real office address or case number you can check.

A real court does not collect a fine by email. Do not pay. Do not open the attachment if you were not expecting it.
